Principal Mobile Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Principal Mobile Engineer / Mobile Architect to define and evolve the architecture of a large-scale mobile platform within the e-commerce domain.

This is a highly technical, hands-on role for an engineer who can combine mobile architecture expertise, production-level development, and cross-team technical leadership.

Working hours: Candidates must be able to work with significant overlap with the Pacific Time Zone (PT) to ensure effective collaboration with the US-based team.

About the Project

You will be working on a large-scale, high-traffic consumer e-commerce platform serving a significant user base and supporting complex customer journeys and product catalog experiences.

The platform requires a strong focus on performance, scalability, reliability, and seamless mobile user experience. The role involves modernizing and evolving the existing mobile ecosystem, establishing scalable architectural patterns, and ensuring the platform can support continued product and business growth.

Experience with e-commerce platforms, product catalogs, or other high-traffic consumer-facing applications will be highly valuable.

Key Responsibilities

Define, evolve, and own the overall mobile platform architecture.

Lead large-scale mobile modernization, re-architecture, and platform evolution initiatives.

Establish and scale standards for mobile application architecture, engineering practices, testing, and release management.

Contribute directly to production mobile code and develop proofs of concept for new architectural approaches.

Drive architecture reviews and technical decision-making across multiple engineering teams.

Establish mobile platform governance, architectural standards, and reusable engineering patterns.

Identify and address performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability challenges across mobile applications.

Partner with Product, Backend, Platform, Data, Security, and Infrastructure teams to ensure architectural alignment.

Mentor senior engineers and raise engineering quality through architecture reviews, code reviews, and technical guidance.

Document and scale architectural decisions, best practices, and organizational learnings.

Technical Requirements

12+ years of software engineering experience, including significant experience at Staff, Principal, Architect, or equivalent level.

Strong hands-on expertise in Swift/iOS and Kotlin/Android development.

Experience with at least one cross-platform technology: React Native or Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP/KMM).

Deep understanding of modern mobile architecture patterns, modular application design, and platform architecture.

Proven experience leading mobile modernization or re-architecture initiatives.

Strong knowledge of mobile performance optimization and application scalability.

Experience designing offline-first mobile applications and data synchronization strategies.

Strong knowledge of mobile CI/CD, testing practices, release engineering, and automation.

Strong engineering fundamentals across code quality, automated testing, observability, reliability, and continuous delivery.

Experience designing and evolving large-scale distributed systems, including APIs, event-driven architectures, data pipelines, and high-scale platforms.

Experience with e-commerce platforms, product catalogs, or high-traffic consumer applications.

Technical Leadership

Proven ability to drive cross-team and cross-organizational technical decisions and platform initiatives.

Experience aligning multiple engineering teams around architecture, standards, and technical direction.

Ability to evaluate architectural trade-offs and drive decisions through implementation.

Strong experience conducting architecture and code reviews and mentoring senior engineers.

Ability to influence technical and business stakeholders without formal authority.

Strong communication skills and experience working across Product, Data, Security, Infrastructure, and Engineering organizations.

Experience collaborating with globally distributed teams, including teams across the US, LATAM, and Asia.

AI-Assisted Engineering

Hands-on experience using modern AI-assisted development tools, such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, or similar tools, in production engineering workflows.

Experience defining or implementing AI-driven SDLC practices, including engineering standards, automation patterns, and appropriate guardrails.

Ability to demonstrate how AI-assisted development has improved engineering workflows while maintaining code quality, security, and reliability.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is not only an architect but also a hands-on Principal-level engineer who is comfortable moving between strategic architecture decisions and production code.

You should be able to define the technical direction of a mobile platform, align multiple engineering teams around it, and help turn architectural decisions into scalable, production-ready solutions.

Availability to collaborate during Pacific Time Zone (PT) working hours is required.
