Description
Virtualization Platform Management: Administer and support enterprise virtualization platforms — hypervisor clusters, software-defined storage, and platform lifecycle management; participate in design, capacity planning, expansion, and upgrade activities across multiple data centers.
Software-Defined Networking & Cloud Delivery: Support and develop software-defined networking, load balancing, and cloud management/self-service platforms enabling multi-tenant resource delivery; contribute to virtualization-adjacent services such as backup and replication.
Linux Infrastructure Management: Administer and support Linux-based server infrastructure (RHEL/Rocky/AlmaLinux, Ubuntu); manage OS lifecycle, patching, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
Physical Infrastructure & Storage: Manage enterprise server hardware, storage systems (SAN/NAS), and FC SAN fabrics; support LUN provisioning, zoning, multipathing, and storage migration activities.
Automation & Configuration Management: Develop and maintain automation using Ansible, Python, and Bash; apply Infrastructure as Code principles for configuration and lifecycle management at scale; actively reduce manual operational toil.
Monitoring & Observability: Design and maintain monitoring, alerting, and logging pipelines; ensure proactive visibility into system health, capacity, and performance across the infrastructure stack.
High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Ensure HA and fault tolerance of mission-critical systems; maintain and validate Backup and DR procedures; document and test RPO/RTO targets.
Security & Compliance: Apply security hardening best practices across virtualization and Linux/Unix layers; understanding of SELinux/AppArmor concepts and their role in system security; support vulnerability patching lifecycle and audit/compliance requirements.
Incident Management & Troubleshooting: Lead complex incident resolution and root cause analysis across virtualization, OS, storage, network, and hardware layers; drive post-incident reviews and systemic improvements.
Capacity Planning: Analyze infrastructure trends and proactively plan for growth across compute, storage, and network resources.
Documentation & Collaboration: Produce accurate technical documentation (HLD/LLD, runbooks); mentor junior and mid-level team members; work closely with networking, security, and development teams.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Information Systems, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum 5 years as a Senior System Administrator in virtualization- and Linux-heavy enterprise environments; experience in a DevOps-oriented or cross-functional infrastructure team is a strong advantage.
Virtualization: Deep hands-on expertise in enterprise virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware vSphere, RHV/OpenShift Virtualization, KVM-based stacks, or Hyper-V) — cluster design, HA, lifecycle management, and troubleshooting; experience with software-defined storage and networking concepts.
Operating Systems: Strong expertise in Linux administration (RHEL/Rocky/AlmaLinux, Ubuntu Server).
Physical Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with enterprise server hardware, storage systems (SAN/NAS), and FC SAN switching; solid understanding of storage concepts — block/file/object storage, RAID, multipathing, zoning, and replication.
Containers & Cloud-Native: Practical experience or strong familiarity with container platforms and orchestration (Kubernetes, OpenShift, or equivalent) — considered a significant advantage given ongoing platform modernization.
Backup & Replication: Practical experience with enterprise backup and replication solutions.
Automation & IaC: Automation-first mindset with hands-on experience in Ansible; practical scripting skills in Python and/or Bash; understanding of Infrastructure as Code principles and their application in day-to-day operations.
Networking Fundamentals: Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP/HTTPS, VLANs, load balancing, and firewall concepts, particularly in virtualized and software-defined network contexts.
Monitoring: Experience with monitoring and alerting platforms (Zabbix, Prometheus/Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch, or equivalent).
Security Hardening: Ability to apply and enforce security best practices across virtualization and Linux/Unix systems.
Problem Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills across virtualization, OS, storage, network, and application layers.
Documentation: Ability to produce clear HLD/LLD documents, runbooks, and technical reports.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with multi-tenant cloud management and self-service platforms.
Experience with S3-compatible object storage platforms and concepts such as erasure coding and data protection policies.
Experience with legacy UNIX platforms (HP-UX, Solaris, Tru64, or similar).
Familiarity with identity and access solutions (MFA, LDAP/Kerberos, directory service integration) in Linux environments.
Experience with web server and proxy technologies (NGINX, Apache, HAProxy or similar).
Experience in telecom or other large-scale, high-availability enterprise environments.
