Senior Database Administrator

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Database

Administrator (DBA) with deep, hands-on expertise in PostgreSQL and Oracle database platforms, combined with strong

skills in Ansible-based automation. This is a senior-level role: you will own the performance, integrity, security,

and availability of critical database systems, lead complex migrations and high-availability initiatives, mentor

junior DBAs, and drive automation strategy to streamline provisioning, patching, monitoring, and operational tasks

across the database infrastructure.

Key

Responsibilities

Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain

PostgreSQL and Oracle database environments (on-premises and/or cloud)

Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues, and

implement tuning strategies (query optimization, indexing, partitioning)

Design and implement backup, recovery, and disaster

recovery strategies (RMAN for Oracle; pg_basebackup/pgBackRest/Barman for PostgreSQL)

Manage replication (Oracle Data Guard/GoldenGate;

PostgreSQL streaming/logical replication)

Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks/roles to automate database provisioning,

configuration management, patching, and routine maintenance tasks

Implement database security best practices: user/role

management, encryption, auditing, and compliance with organizational policies

Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and

DevOps teams to support application deployments and CI/CD pipelines

Plan and execute database migrations, upgrades, and

patching with minimal downtime

Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and standard operating

procedures

Participate in

on-call rotation and respond to incidents/outages as needed

Proactively identify opportunities for automation to reduce manual, repetitive

operational work

Mentor and

provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level DBAs

Own database architecture decisions and lead capacity planning for critical

systems

Act as the

technical escalation point for complex, high-severity database incidents

Required Skills &

Experience

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science,

Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)

Strong analytical and problem-solving

skills

5–8+ years of

hands-on experience as a Database Administrator, including senior or lead

responsibilities

Strong

working knowledge of PostgreSQL (11+): installation, replication, backup/recovery tools (pgBackRest, Barman, WAL-G),

performance tuning

Practical experience writing and maintaining Ansible playbooks, roles, and

inventories for database automation

Solid understanding of Linux/Unix systems administration (shell scripting, cron,

systemd)

Experience with

SQL and PL/SQL / PL/pgSQL scripting

Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., Zabbix, Prometheus/Grafana, OEM,

pgAdmin)

Understanding of

networking fundamentals as they relate to database connectivity and security

Experience with version control (Git) for managing

Ansible code and scripts

Good understanding of database security, encryption, and access control

principles

Experience with

pgpool-II or Patroni for high availability

Excellent communication skills and ability to work

cross-functionally

Ability

to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmen

Nice-to-Have

Experience with cloud database services (AWS

RDS/Aurora, OCI, Azure Database)

Exposure to containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) for database

workloads

Experience with

CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions)

Knowledge of other automation/config management tools (Terraform, Puppet,

Chef)

Oracle or PostgreSQL

certifications (OCP, EDB certifications, etc.)

Experience with GoldenGate for high availability

Scripting in Python for automation and

tooling

SAP HANA database

administration skills (installation, backup/recovery, performance tuning)

Experience with MongoDB (installation, replication,

backup/recovery)

Experience

with Elasticsearch (cluster management, indexing, performance tuning)

Experience with Microsoft SQL Server

administration
