Description
About the job
Our company builds a modern operations platform for oil delivery businesses. Heating oil dealers across the northeastern US run mission-critical daily operations (dispatch, routing, deliveries, billing) on decades-old software and paper tickets. Our platform runs the entire delivery workflow: customer and tank management, pricing, dispatch, route optimization, and an offline-first driver app, with automated delivery forecasting on the roadmap. In oil delivery, every truck-hour counts and a missed delivery in January is a frozen home. We help dealers run more gallons per truck with less office overhead.
About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer who thrives at the intersection of engineering and product thinking. You'll own features end-to-end: design, build, launch, and iterate across our stack, including the dispatch and back-office web app, the offline-first driver experience, routing API integrations, and the data layer that powers delivery forecasting. Your work goes live in October running a real oil dealership's daily operations through the winter heating season.
We care deeply about both product quality and speed. We ship fast, but everything that ships gets reviewed: all core code goes through a code review, and we hold each other to a high standard on correctness, reliability, and user experience.
This is a full-time contract role, working with significant overlap with the US Eastern Time Zone. You'll work directly with the technical founder, a former J.P. Morgan trading-systems engineer who stays hands-on in the codebase while driving the business. We are currently a team of two and looking to bring on a founding engineer.
What You'll Do
Own feature development from database schema to driver-facing experiences.
Build our offline-first driver experience (service workers, local persistence, sync on reconnect) for trucks that lose signal on rural routes.
Integrate routing and optimization APIs with dispatcher override workflows.
Participate in code reviews, both giving and receiving direct, constructive feedback on pull requests.
Hold a high bar for code quality, reliability, and monitoring. This system runs a oil business in a northeastern winter, where downtime has real-world consequences.
Prioritize ruthlessly against an October go-live and navigate evolving domain requirements with autonomy.
What You'll Bring
4+ years of full-stack engineering experience with production systems people depended on.
Strong Python (Django or Flask) and solid TypeScript/React skills.
Strong PostgreSQL and relational data modeling; multi-tenant schema experience a plus.
Comfort owning third-party API integrations (mapping and routing, payments, QuickBooks a plus).
Strong familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Copilot).
A balance of speed and craft: you ship quickly without cutting corners that matter, and you welcome code review as part of how good software gets built.
Low ego, high autonomy, resilient against a hard deadline.
Proactive and precise communication in English. You'll work async across time zones.
